Financial transactions online have grown hugely in the past ten years, driven mostly by the need to access finances 24 hour hours a day and the convenience of using the internet to mak e a transaction. Of course the ability to do this has also been linked to the advent of high speed broadband without which, the industry would not have grown at the same rate.

One of the most familiar transactions will be those undertaken with online banking, both domestic and for businesses. This helps banks as it means less people visiting branches and calling contact centres, meaning there are lower staff costs. However it also present a huge opportunity for fraud, which was not present before online banking came into existence.  For this reason banks have continually been attempting to improve the security if online banking. Some of the initiatives include using a SSL secure connection so that details are encrypted, using Pin sentry card readers as well as a number of passwords and membership numbers.
